Elvis Week 2012: Fans Flock to Graceland to Commemorate Elvis Presley's 35th Death Anniversary [VIDEO]

On the 35th death anniversary of The King of Rock n' Roll's death, more than 70,000 Elvis Presley fans are traveling to Graceland to honor the legend.

Every year, in accordance to Elvis' death, Elvis Week occurs. The culmination of the week includes a candlelit vigil at the Graceland Gates Wednesday, followed by a concert with the surviving members of his band.

There will also be video footage of Elvis and both Priscilla Presley, his late wife, and his daughter, Lisa Marie Presley will take part in the commemoration.

Presley who died at the age of 42 of a heart disease and prescription drug abuse on August 16, 1977 is memorialized as one of the greatest artists that music has ever seen.

Fans will begin lining up on Wednesday afternoon at the entrance to Graceland. Fans holding candles will be allowed to visit Presley's gravesite at Graceland's Meditation Garden beginning around 8:30 p.m. The vigil is expected to last into early Thursday.

In conjunction with Elvis Week, there was also an auction in Memphis selling off Presley artifacts including a gold Longines watch which was a gift from his manager Colonel Tom Parker. Also on sale was a Colt Python double-action revolver that Presley used for target practice. Even an empty plastic bottle of tetracycline that was prescribed to Presley in 1974 sold for over $5,500.

A 5k race is also part of the Elvis Week along with other celebratory events.
