Australian Singer Kylie Minogue has announced Sydney's theme for New Year's Eve. The theme: "Embrace."
As the Creative Ambassador for the City of Sydney's 2012 NYE, Minogue announced "Embrace is all about acceptance, tolerance, fun and, above all, love."
The pop star is hoping the theme will encourage lots of hugs as the clock strikes 12 to start off 2013. Sydney's New Year's celebration often includes a large fireworks display over the harbor. "This year I want everyone to embrace during the fireworks," said Minogue.
However, the theme goes beyond hugging friends, family and loved ones. "Whether it's embracing new ideas, change and opportunities, or just giving a big hug to your family and friends, it's something everyone can get involved in," she said, as quoted by the Herald Sun.
As one million gather around the harbor to watch the display in Australia, and over a billion watch on television, Minogue hopes the theme will create a memorable start to the year.
"In a city of great diversity we come together at New Year's Eve to embrace the future and celebrate all that we are and the potential that tomorrow holds. It's also about that magical moment at midnight when we throw our arms around the people we love and express our happiness, Minoque said, explaining the theme that is close to her heart, "So together, we are going to make this New Year's Eve the most memorable night ever."
As excitement builds for this year's New Year's Eve celebration in Sydney, the Embrace theme will be shared all throughout the city. Along with Minogue's chosen theme comes a logo that includes a swirl of colorful sails in magenta, yellow, purple, and red, and included Minogue's signature K. The icon will be noticed by residents and tourists as it will be on display on buses and banners around Sydney.
"Kylie's chosen theme of Embrace will be visible throughout the city in the lead up to the night and will provide the inspiration for the 9PM Family Fireworks and Midnight Fireworks displays, being designed and choreographed by expert pyrotechnician Fortunato Foti.,'' Lord Mayor Clover Moore said, as quoted by the Herald Sun.
