Guests at the Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine, Texas got a bit of a surprise as nearly 400 cheerleaders from the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) put on the resort's first ever Splash Mob as a way to send good luck to the Olympians of Team USA competing abroad.
As a nod to the members of Team USA competing in the 2012 Olympics, Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine, an outdoor waterpark resort, wanted to plan a special event to wish them good luck. Hundreds of cheerleaders wearing wolf tails and ears, broke out into a performance that surprised and entertained guests on August 8.
"We were inspired by the sporting events taking place this summer and wanted to host a unique event," said Nikki Donofrio, senior vice president, brand marketing of Great Wolf Lodge in a release.
The resort asked former Olympian, fall of gamer, and member of the National Synchronized Swimming team, Carrie Garten to help choreograph the Splash Mob and help make the event possible.
"As a 16-year synchronized swimming veteran, I was honored when Great Wolf Lodge contacted me to help develop the choreography behind today's Splash Mob," said Garten, as quoted by the Grapevine Texas Online. "With the current attention on synchronized swimming, I'm happy to participate in this event and share a taste of synchronized swimming in a fun way."
Great Wolf Lodge asked members of the UCA cheerleaders to participate in the even as the resort holds weeklong camps for the cheerleaders during the summer.
"As we planned the Splash Mob, we did not have to look too far to find the perfect participants. The UCA Cheer Camp attendees have been great to work with and helped us put together an event our Great Wolf Lodge guests will remember for a long time," Donofrio said.
The UCA cheerleaders were excited to spread Olympic spirit to the guests of Great Wolf Lodge.
"Our cheerleaders were thrilled when they learned they would put on a Splash Mob for Great Wolf Lodge guests," said Bill Seely, Senior Vice President of Training and Education, Universal Cheerleaders Association. "The surprise Splash Mob was exciting and fun for our camp participants."
