Google Releases Improved Gmail For iOS With Enhanced Seach, Undo Send, And More

Recently, Google released a newly-designed Gmail app for iPhone with "a lost faster" performance, as described by the company. The 'fresh new look' can now be called more as a proper app, not like a clumsy overlay for Gmail's mobile website There's also an improved search functionality that includes instant results and spelling suggestions, and Google emphasized the ability to easily Swipe to archive or delete depending on your preference. It has been said that the new features from Gmail were highly requested by the following of Google. It's also notably similar to the Gmail app available on Android devices.

Google added one new feature from Inbox: Undo Send. This latest option slides up from the bottom immediately after sending off an email, providing you a brief opportunity to take it back before all your typos can be seen and criticized by co-workers. The Undo Send feature on the web can be set to a 5, 10, 20, or 30 second delay, but the one in Google's mobile app seems to be using a set 5 seconds.

However, this new Gmail design still doesn't have a unified inbox. That's why if you have both personal and work accounts, you need to view it separately. That feature is what other email apps have for the time being. If you are an avid user of the Gmail app, that experience is getting noticeably better today.

Meanwhile, the Google Calendar for iPhone is also being updated with month view and week in landscape view. There's also a Spotlight search for finding your appointments, reminders, and goals. Unfortunately, The Verge said that an iPad version of Google Calendar is still unavailable.

9to5mac summarized what the new Gmail version is all about: "The Gmail you know and love, now with a fresh new look, sleeker transitions and some highly-requested features. It's a lot faster, too. - Undo Send: prevent embarrassing mistakes - Search: find things faster with instant results and spelling suggestions - Swipe to archive/delete: quickly clear out your inbox." Meanwhile, Google's new Gmail app for iOS, version 5.0.3, is available on the App Store now.
