“Diablo 3” Reveals New Necromancer Class In BlizzCon 2016

While Blizzard have been making incremental changes to Diablo 3, things have been somewhat quiet regarding the expansion front since Reaper of Souls was released back in 2014. Corresponding with the franchise's 20th anniversary, aside from having the original "Diablo" getting thrown into the game, there's also a new playable character. Returning from "Diablo 2", the Necromancer is on its way to the game and there has been a test run during the developer's BlizzCon event in Anaheim, California.

Moreover, the Necromancer class is heading to "Diablo 3" as part of the "Rise of the Necromancer" character pack featuring "other great features" in 2017. The pack consists of a new in-game pet, "two additional character slots, two additional stash tabs (on PC)," along with a "portrait frame, pennant, banner, and banner sigil." According to IGN, Blizzard half-jokingly said the inclusion of the Necromancer class was part of a "thorough, in-depth analysis" of players' most requested character class.

Mirror revealed that some of the NM's abilities mostly focused on dealing Physical damage. Siphon Blood serves as the resource generator, which deals damage but also heals if you decide to plant your feet and channel it. As a result, you'll get a lot of health back fairly immediately, but remaining stationary leaves you vulnerable if enemies comes close to you.

Players can also utilize a Bone Spear, which pierces through enemies in a straight line, while Command Skeletons will summon a literal skeleton crew, part ranged, part melee, to fight by your side or target a specific enemy. Moreover, Decrepify is an AoE debuffer that will slow enemies within a specific radius and reduce the damage they dish out.

The most impressive ability was called as Corpse Explosion. This can cause the remains of up to 10 defeated foes to explode in a shower of gore, severely damaging any living enemies and filling the screen with a chain reaction of flying viscera. However, Army of the Dead was not available to try in the demo. Revealed during a panel with the game's programmers and artists, this skill raises over 100 skeletons from the ground who then proceed to rush at a single enemy.
