Rashida Jones, the actress and co-writer of her new movie opening this week, "Celeste and Jesse Forever" starring herself and Andy Sandberg talked to Vanity Fair about her favorite London spots and travel tips.
Rashida told Vanity Fair that London is where she goes when she wants to get away from it all. She said, "I like to be in a European city where I can speak my language. I go there to work, to see friends, and I also really like to shop there. I absolutely love it."
Her favorite hotels to stay in include the Charlotte Street Hotel, which is located in Soho, within walking to the theatre district. She also stays at the Covent Garden Hotel and the Soho Hotel which are all owned by Firmdale Hotels. She said to Vanity Fair, "They're classic, centrally located, the service is really good, and the rooms are beautiful. I just stayed at the Charlotte Street Hotel, which is lovely."
She adds that Charlotte Street Hotel's veggie burger and fries is a must have for room service fiends. Some of her favorite places to indulge in a meal include the restaurant Trullo in Islington for home-style Italian food and the famous J. Sheekey's for fish and chips.
Jones said her best kept secret about London is an alley in Covent Garden. "There's a dude singing on a piano outside and three healthy restaurants to get juices and homeopathic remedies." She also notes the popular English brand Topshop as one of her shopping destinations of choice as well as Selfridges and Cos.
When she's in the mood to check out the nightlife? Jones will generally have a drink at Soho House or the Groucho Club and always packs a raincoat or a Barbour jacket due to the rainy London weather. She said, "I was just there for two months, and it rained the whole time."
