August is already upon us, which means summer will be over before we know it. As Labor Day falls early this year, on September 3, it would be smart to start making those Labor Day Weekend travel arrangements now. Fly.com, the "world's easiest-to-use airfare search engine," announced their list of the top 10 most popular travel destinations for Labor Day.
Using the data of more than 3 million user searches, Fly.com, owned by Travelzoo, determined the best places to end the summer. The date included searched for departure dates between August 24 and Sept. 1 and return dates from Sept. 2-9. The data was taken from searches that were made for those dates between June 1 and July 18.
At the top of the list are U.S destinations like New York and Las VegasWest Coast locations like Los Angeles, San Francisco and Honolulu are pretty pupolar, while Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and San Juan are popular East coast Labor Day getaway spots.
Lima, Peru is the only non-U.S. spot to make the top 10. This is probably due to a low roundtrip airfare deal back in June where it only cost $239.
"Labor Day is often thought of as the last chance for a summer vacation," said Warren Chang, vice president and general manager, Fly.com. "Similar to the trend that we uncovered in the spring, Americans are still favoring travel within the United States - at least for this particular federal holiday. This is likely due to aggressive deals from domestic airlines, which have recently targeted the late summer and early fall."
