Sewing Needle On Plane 2012: Needle Found in Sandwich on Air Canada Flight

Not even a month after the Delta flight needle-sandwich situation that brought the nation up in arms occurred, another needle has been found inside a sandwich on an Air Canada flight Monday.

The flight from Victoria British Columbia to Toronto is in full investigation about the needle. The needle, similar to the ones on the Delta flights, appears to be a sewing needle.

A spokesman for Air Canada, Peter Fitzpatrick, said Tuesday that the airline is working closely with its caterer which he wouldn't name to make sure heightened security measures have been put in place.

The airline is working with police investigating the manner. Fitzpatrick said to CNN that "safety is always our top priority so we are taking this matter very seriously," adding that it "appeared to be an isolated incident."

Just a few weeks ago two passengers suffered minor injuries when they found needles in the meat of the sandwiches served aboard four Delta Airlines flights from Amsterdam to the U.S. Dutch Police Officer Robert van Kapel told the Associated Press that it was too early to rule out a copycat.

The Delta Airlines sandwiches had been prepared by Gate Gourmet which is Amsterdam-based. Gate Gourmet said that it is one of the caterers that serves Air Cananda but not the provider out of Victoria where the needle was discovered.

Christina Ulosovich a spokesperson for Gate Gourmet told the BBC, "We are co-operating fully with Air Canada and have complied with our customer's request to its caterers to heighten food safety procedures, including inspection and screening of all products boarded on flights."
