Michael Massee, Actor Who Accidentally Shot Bruce Lee’s Son, Dies At 61

Michael Massee, the character actor who unfortunately will forever be remembered as the man who accidentally shot and killed Bruce Lee's son, Brandon Lee, on the set of the 1994 film "The Crow, has died at the age of 61.

Massee's death was reportedly first announced by actor Anthony Delon, his co-star on the Franch TV series "Interventions" and later confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter.

His wife, Ellen, confirmed that Massee died October 20 due to stomach cancer in Los Angeles.

In his second movie appearance, Massee portrayed the role of Funboy who fired a revolver that had been improperly prepared by crewmembers at Brandon Lee, the son of popular martial arts star Bruce Lee. It struck Lee in the stomach, and he passed away after several hours of surgery on March 31, 1993. He was 28 then.

Massee was just following the script during filming at a studio in Wilmington, N.C. Because of the incident, he took a leave from acting that lasted more than a year. "I just took a year off and I went back to New York and didn't do anything. I didn't work. What happened to Brandon was a tragic accident...I don't think you ever get over something like that," he said.

"The Crow", which was directed by Alex Proyas, had been finished before the tragedy and released in May 1994. It earned more than $50 million in the U.S.

After years of silence, People said that Massee finally chose to open up about the incident in an interview. "It absolutely wasn't supposed to happen. I wasn't even supposed to be handling the gun until we started shooting the scene and the director changed it."

Massee is also known for playing Ira Gaines on the first season of Fox's "24", Surgeon or Charles Hoyt on TNT's "Rizzoli & Isles", Gustav Fiers in 2012's "The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel.

The Kansas City, Missouri, native also appeared in films like "Seven" (1995), "The Game" (1997), "One Fine Day" (1996) and "Amistad" (1997).

Massee TV credits included "The X-Files", "Murder One", "Alias", "Cold Case", "Supernatural", "Flashforward", "House and The Blacklist."
