Samsung Galaxy S III users who are staying in certain hotels in London for the 2012 Olympic Games, are getting a chance to use their phone for much more than calls and texting. Forty rooms at the Holiday Inn in Stratford, near the London 2012 Olympic arena, are in sync with a new app on the Samsung Galaxy S III.
Samsung Galaxy S III owners can use the Holiday Inn Android app to control their hotel TV rooms, air conditioning and light right from their phone. The app also acts as a key, allowing guests to unlock their room with it.
Being that the Samsung Galaxy S III is the official phone and sponsor of the 2012 Olympic Games, the app also provides access to an Olympic Newsletter, as well as updates on the Olympics, event times, and information about London.
The phone also acts as a regular hotel phone and allows users to order room service or and have access to other hotel areas. Guests can also use the phone to check in or out of their rooms.
Samsung teamed up with Fingi Inc. to develop this special Holiday Inn app. They companies have previous worked together to develop a similar app for the Aloft Hotel in Bangkok last year.
Samsung has developed several apps to get into the Olympics spirit. The Samsung Hope Relay app donates money to charity according to how much exercise a person does. Samsung also teamed up with the company Three to develop the Victoria Pendleton Road to Victory app, which gives information about the gold medal cyclist's life as she worked her way up to becoming an Olympian.
The 2012 Olympic Games kick off with the opening ceremonies on July 27 and continue through August 12.
