Mitt Romney will travel abroad next week in order to establish credibility as President. The Republican candidate will venture to England, Israel and Poland. Romney has little formal experience overseas and will hold meetings with leaders, visit historic sites and give speeches.
Romney's policy director, Lanhee Chen said to The Associated Press, "This trip is an opportunity for us to demonstrate a clear and resolute stand with nations that share our values and possess the fortitude to defend those values in the name of a more peaceful world,"
Romney's visit to Israel is a politically delicate one and he will meet with top leaders who are working on decisions about whether to launch a military strike on Iran, a decision which is opposed by the Obama administration. According to The AP, Romney has said, "If we re-elect Barack Obama, Iran will have a nuclear weapon. And if you elect Mitt Romney, Iran will not have a nuclear weapon."
The visit to Israel on July 28 will start off with a meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Shimon Peres and U.S. Ambassador Daniel Shapiro. He also plans to meet with the Palestinian Authority prime minister, Salam Fayyad. Romney has visited Israel 4 times and in 2007 he gave a speech there at the Herzliya Conference.
The trip will also allow him to reach Jewish voters in the U.S.
