United Airlines Gifts Teddy Bears To Kids With Cancer, Raises Funds

The staff of United Airlines in partnership with the American Cancer Society delivered 11,600 teddy bears to Chicago-area kids undergoing cancer treatment on Tuesday.

The distribution of the teddy bears which is happening across the country is a part of a multi-year partnership between United and the American Cancer Society that has raised nearly 200 million MileagePlus miles and nearly $590,000 in the fight against cancer.

This is the fifth year of the partnership in which United customers big-heartedly contributed cash and MileagePlus miles to the American Cancer Society during the holidays.

Each $50 cash or 7,500 MileagePlus mile donation made by the customers of United reach a child undergoing cancer treatment as a limited-edition GUND® teddy bear, Oliver D. World.

The donations also support the children who need to travel for their treatment and American Cancer Society's mission of fighting cancer.

"There is no greater joy than seeing children smile when we walk into their hospital rooms with a cuddly new teddy bear," said Sonya Jackson, president, United Airlines Foundation. "That is truly the heart of the program - giving a child undergoing treatment, and the United co-workers who participate, a reason to smile."

Almost all the members from the United team, including customer service representatives, ramp and maintenance workers, flight attendants and pilots joined the initiative to deliver Oliver D. World to children at hospitals in Chicago, Houston, Denver, San Francisco, Oakland, Newark, Cleveland, Los Angeles and Washington.

United also supports a lot of other organizations like the American Cancer Society that works for the welfare of children suffering from cancer.

Organizations that work to improve lives through health and education, providing employment opportunities for youth, promoting arts and culture, and spreading awareness about the environment also gets donation from United group.

United has 86,000 employees worldwide.
