The singles scene in every city is constantly evolving. In one city the hip downtown martini bar is the best place to mingle while in others, the park is basically a mating ground for dates. Travel + Leisure has put out their Favorite Cities Survey, where readers from 35 cities evaluate everything from coffee shops, boutique hotels to how bar scenes are good for the singles scene in their respective city. The America's Best Singles Scene is one part of their timely research for those looking to mate and date.
It's no surprise that effervescent, crazy and congested New York ranked third amongst best cities to be single. With myriad bars for every demographic, there's literally a scene for everyone. From the trendy dance club in Chelsea to speakeasy bars and dives in the Lower East Side. New York, not surprisingly, also ranked number one for diversity.
Denver at Number 9 ranked fairly high for its reputation of attractive single men. Amber Connor, a Denver resident, said to Travel + Leisure, "I've often heard Denver referred to as 'Men'-ver by out-of-staters. We do have more of the rugged, outdoorsy type here."
Our favorite party city New Orleans ranked number one. Also ranking the friendliest, proudest and kookiest with the best live music and cocktail scene, it seems New Orleans is winning all around.
Las Vegas' wild weekends ranked it number two while San Francisco and Chicago also ranked high for singles because of its great restaurants, live music and diverse population.
"Losers" on the list include Salt Lake City with its clean image, at 34 and Anchorage because of its overabundance of dudes.
Here are the Top Ten:
- New Orleans
- Las Vegas
- New York
- Miami
- San Juan, P.R.
- Chicago
- Austin, TX
- Nashville
- San Francisco
