Helpful Holiday Tips! Experts Reveal The Best Time To Buy Holiday Tickets

From the stressful gift shopping for the holiday, to the long-travel visits to the family, the season drains the people's pockets as much as their energy. However, experts at Hopper, an application that uses big data to predict and analyze airfare, has discovered the best timing to purchase flights for the holidays, saving energy and money along the way.

When traveling for Christmas, the best date to purchase flights is within Oct. 5 until Oct. 12 as tickets are its cheapest 80 days before the holiday. You can also purchase tickets for Thanksgiving during those dates or maybe wait for a couple days after. Just remember to book by the end of October as ticket prices after the Halloween will get you as much as a one dollar and fifty cents increase per day and six dollars daily for about 10 days before Thanksgiving.

Experts also noted to avoid buying flights during Wednesday before and Sunday after Thanksgiving. To have the biggest saving though, try traveling during Thanksgiving Day if the schedule allows you to.

Travels nearing the Christmas day is the most expensive if you missed the 80-day mark in buying tickets, as every day closer to Christmas gets you an additional dollar and fifty cents for each round-trip holiday airfare. As usual, if your schedule permits you to, try to fly during Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or New Year's Eve to score the best savings during the season.

This data came after Hopper's careful study of about seven billion flight price quotes daily. From that point, there were able to determine the best interval of ticket price hikes and suggests to book on those dates. They also reported that prices this year were lower than last year's average, with a twelve percent decrease for Christmas flights and about 7.8% decrease for Thanksgiving. More reason to have the planned family vacation this time of the year.
