Vote For The Happiest U.S. City On The Coast

Yearly, Coastal Living holds a competition to find out the happiest U.S. city on the coast. This usually garners tremendous buzz involving a national television coverage.

Ten towns around the country are contenders for the title, including Camden, Maine; Cape May, New Jersey; Carmel-by-the-Sea, California; Dana Point, California; Fernandina Beach, Florida; Grand Haven, Michigan; Hilton Head Island, South Carolina; Langley, Washington; Orleans, Massachusetts; and Sarasota, Florida.

These finalists for the Happiest Seaside Town landed on the top 10 either, because it got featured in the magazine or nominated through social media. According to Travel + Leisure, the factors considered upon choosing the towns were based on their percentage of sunny days, air quality, commute times, healthiness of beaches, geographic diversity, walkability, crime stats, standard of living, financial well-being of locals and "coastal vibes."

Voters can choose one town every 15 minutes on the Coastal Living website. The voting will only be until October 17, and the winner will be announced on January 11.

The town who brought home the title will also be featured in the magazine's 20th anniversary issue in May and will have bragging rights forever or at least before the next election cycle.

Last April, people who live in Stuart, Florida rejoiced as their town earned the number one spot for the Happiest Seaside Town in America.

Stuart Mayor Jeff Krauskopf told Stuart Magazine, "This is a huge win for our area, and with our passionate residents and dedicated ambassadors, [we] were able to edge out the competition,"

It was the first time a Florida town bagged the title. They just got the number two and three spots in 2015 - Delray Beach and Venice respectively.

Coastal Living described the happy town as follows:

"Often referred to as a hidden gem just 45 minutes north of Palm Beach, Stuart is an Old Florida-style treasure. Nestled between two rivers and situated on the Atlantic, the town shares its waters with sea turtles, dolphins, and, most famously, the sailfish-its abundant local presence has led to the town's reputation as the 'sailfish capital of the world.'"

Among those towns nominated, Orleans is currently the only one with a promotional video convincing people why it should win the title of "America's Happiest Seaside Town". Watch it below!
