Taking time off of work for a vacation may actually be stressful for some and then finding the money to actually go somewhere during a break can be rough as people try to recover from the recession. However, one boss seems to have the right idea and is a full supporter of employees taking a vacation. He pays his employees $7,500 to take a break.
Barat Lorang, CEO of a Denver start-up digital management company, FullContact, announced in a blog post that all his employes get paid $7,500 towards their vacation, on top of paid vacation days. However Lorang has some rules about his Paid Paid Vacation idea, but they're not bad ones. He just wants to ensure that his workers get a full vacation experience without the worries.
In order to receive the $7,500 for a vacation, FullContact employees must follow these three rules:
- You have to go on vacation, or you don't get the money.
- You must disconnect.
- You can't work while on vacation.
Not such a bad deal. Lorang got this idea after spending a trip with his fiance constantly connected to his cell phone and doing work related things. He decided he wants his honeymoon to be different and he doesn't want another vacation ruined by worrying about work. He passed the idea by a friend, Brad Field, who said "I love the Paid Paid Vacation concept and totally agree with it. A lot of people won't spend the money because they don't have it or think they'll be happier if they save it. But they miss the value of disconnecting."
Lorang also had his reasoning for paying his employees extra to take a break.
"We felt that everyone should have the opportunity to take a nice vacation without constantly worrying about how much money they're spending while on vacation. As a result, we settled on $7,500 (before taxes). The reasoning? $7,500 is enough for a family of four to take a nice vacation to Mexico for a week. Plus, they can go on some awesome adventures with our friends at FlexTrip or SideTour."
If you'd like to have Lorang as your boss and get paid to take a vacation and still get paid for work, he's hiring. The company is looking to fill positions like iOS and Mac developer, platform engineer and a role in business development.
