Navigating through museums has never been an easy job. With the endless corridors and rooms, one is bound to get confused.
Don't worry, Google has come up with a solution-- Indoor Google Maps.
With indoor maps and walking directions for U.S. museums now available on Android phones or tablets, one can plan the route from exhibit to exhibit, identifying points of interest along the way, including between floors.
Google has added more than twenty popular U.S. museums to their collection of over 10,000 indoor maps that have been recently launched.
The list includes de Young Museum in San Francisco, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Cincinnati Museum Center, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the American Museum of Natural History, 17 other Smithsonian museums and a zoo.
Google claims the app is pretty easy. To access the floor plans, one has to simply open Google Maps on one's Android phone or tablet and zoom in on the museum of interest.
To find the museum, one should either search for it by name using the magnifying glass icon or, if one is already there, use the "My location" feature to orient oneself.
Once the "My location" feature has been enabled, one can even get indoor walking directions.
The popularity of the new ap, have encouraged more museums like the SFMOMA, The Phillips Collection, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and the National WWII Museum in New Orleans, to add their floor plans to Google Maps for Android soon.
Those who are interested to get their museum's floor plan included in Google Maps visit Google Maps Floor Plans tool.
