Taking a cruise is a great way to get away, but one cruise agency is making cruising even more special as the next cruise you take with them can be for a good cause. World Travel Holdings' CruisesOnly, America's largest cruise agency is teaming up with the Make-A-Wish foundation to help make a difference in the lives of children.
Throughout the month of July, CruisesOnly will donate $5 for every cruise vacation booked by its customers, up to $25,000, to Make-A-Wish. Customers will also have the opportunity to make a separate $5 donation to the foundation.
The Make-A-Wish foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. These wishes help bring up the spirits and boost the strength of sick children as they battle their illnesses.
"More than 70 percent of the wishes that Make-A-Wish grants involve travel and nearly 700 of these are cruise wishes," said David A. Williams, Make-A-Wish America president and chief executive officer in a press release. "So, it only makes sense that CruisesOnly and World Travel Holdings should join forces with Make-A-Wish and support our wish granting efforts."
The most recent wish that WTH granted was for 13-year-old Hunter from Whitman, Massachusetts. On December 2, 2010, he was diagnosed with malignant melanoma. As a Make-A-Wish candidate, he wanted to go on Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas because he thought "cruises are cool!" On April 14, 2012, his wish came true. Hunter got to go on the massive ship and he had a great time too.
Although WTH has a goal of raising $25,000 like last year, they hope that this year's promotion will be even more of a success by giving customers the option of making their own separate donation.
"We look forward to exceeding last year's $25,000 fundraising goal for this promotion," said Jeff Sherota, senior vice president of House Brands for World Travel Holdings in a press release. "By giving customers the opportunity to get involved and make an additional donation we look forward to seeing even more wishes come true."
World Trade Holdings has been working with Make-A-Wish since July 2011. Between July 2012 and July 2013, WTH and its employees are determined to donate a minimum of $100,000 to the charity.
