Memorial Day Travel: What You Need to Know

Memorial Day isn't just the time to reflect about our loved ones who passed away but it also means that the street will be busier which would be a great concern for those who are travelling. So, before Memorial Day comes, here are some things that you would expect during that day.

1. Airport travel. Expect more travelers on Friday and Monday with about 12,000 passengers each day. With that, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will open its Pre-Check line earlier at 4 a.m. with an open security checkpoint all the time. Passengers are advised to arrive at the airport earlier, at least 90 minutes prior to their scheduled departure.

2. Gas prices. Although there is an increase in gas prices, drivers can expect lower prices on Memorial Day. According to AAA, the state average for gas is $2.12 per gallon than the $2.47 per gallon from last year. The national average is $2.28.

3. Road trip delays. If you are going on a road trip, expect some delays because of road constructions on Hwy 50 in Lake Tahoe’s Cave Rock area. The Nevada Department of Transportation reminds drivers to anticipate some minor travel delays.

4. Projected travelers. It is projected that more than 38 million Americans will be travelling this Memorial Day weekend. This is an increase of 700,000 compared to that a year ago, Reno Gazette Journal reported. The prediction also says that about 755,000 will travel more than 50 miles from home while 34 million will drive to their Memorial Day destinations.

5. Bus travel. Planning to take the bus on Memorial Day? Then make sure that you will check the adjusted schedules. For buses, you can check on The Metro Transit Authority while if you want to take a van, the AccessRide could take you to your destination even on a Sunday and during holidays, Tennessean wrote.
