The popular erotic novel, 'Fifty Shades of Grey' is joining the mile high club. The bestselling book will now be offered as an audiobook on Virgin Atlantic flights.
Women flying on Virgin can get in touch with their inner goddess at 35,000 feet. Fellow passengers can expect to see several women blushing on board as they listen to the kinky novel on audiobook.
"Fifty Shades of Grey has quickly gained notoriety as a 'naughty novel,' leaving some women embarrassed to read their copy in public," Virgin Atlantic spokeswoman Sarah McIntyre said in a press release. "We want to give our female passengers the chance to enjoy the book in an intimate way, without prying eyes."
"Of course, we can't promise to spare any blushes and can't be held responsible for any risqué behaviour that listening to the recording inspires" McIntyre added.
The erotic fiction novel about the relationship between handsome billionaire Christian Grey and young, innocent Anastasia Steele has been on best seller lists for months now. Due to its graphic content, the book has been banned in three states including Wisconsin, Georgia and Florida, however it is also responsible for the increase in sales of sex toys and ropes for bondage.
The book will be one of many audiobooks that will be a part of Virgin Atlantic's JAM in-flight entertainment. However, the only issue is that the audio book, according to iTunes, takes 20 hours to complete, which means that listeners may need to take a couple flights to finish the whole thing.
The Huffington Post claims that Virgin Atlantic is one of many airlines that has tried to spice up in-flight entertainment. Irish airline Ryanair proposed an app that would include pornographic movies, to be viewed on board. The sight-seeing airline Flamingo Air encourages customers to join the mile high club by paying to get intimate on their flights.
People seem to fantasize about becoming members of the mile high club. In a 2011 Skyscanner survey of 1000 U.K. travelers, 95 percent of people admitted to wanting to join the mile high club and 20 percent admitted to already being members.
Several hotels have also gotten into the Fifty Shades craze. There are book-themed packages at Hotel Max in Seattle, the Heathman Hotel in Portland, and at several San Franciso hotels.
