Disorderly Passenger Causes 10-Hour Delay on Spirit Airlines

Passengers on a Spirit Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Fort Lauderdale were first subject to an emergency landing in Houston, Texas and then a 10-hour delay. flight are upset after an emergency landing left them stranded in Houston for at least 10 hours on Sunday.

Although the airline wouldn't tell KHOU.com exactly what the disruption was caused by, passengers say that a blind, elderly man was involved. Another source said that 81-year-old man was kicking and screaming before he was taken into custody. He was later released.

Spirit Airlines does not regularly fly to that particular airport, and without the proper set up, the passengers could only get information from the screen that listed departures and arrivals. They had spent over an hour on the tarmac before the ten hours in the terminal. They had no food and no chance to ask questions or get answers.

One customer called it "terrible," "unreal," and "painful."

According to the website for Local 10 News, the company released a statement that said, "We understand that this has been an inconvenience for our customers, but the safety of our customers is always the top priority. All customers are being given full refunds for this inconvenience."

Spirit Airlines also said that time constraints with the crew prevented them from allowing the original flight to take off from Houston.
