"Malware Monday" hit at 12.01a.m. ET on July 9. If you are logged in on your computer and reading this, your internet was not blacked out on your computer. However, for those having trouble accessing internet on their computers, most likelihood is that it had previously been infected by the DNS Changer Malware over a year ago.
Monday's internet blackout is a direct result of an international advertising scam which involved hackers who tried to control over half a million infected computers across the world through their malicious servers.
However, when the FB tried to cut off the malicious internet, they realized that the computers that were infected by the virus would lose access to internet service. Thus, the FBI had to set two clean servers as a temporary solution to the internet problem, so users will not lose the internet with no warning. And now that time had come to an end and the FBI shut down its servers at 12.01.a.m. this morning.
If your computer is not getting any internet, your best bet is to call your internet service provider (ISP). Many ISPs across America are reportedly prepared to receive calls from users who were not able to get online. Some have also reportedly prepared their own solutions so that infected users can still go about accessing the web temporarily.
