The South Australian government is being criticized for a tourism app on the iPhone that links visitors to Fleurieu Peninsula for services which are actually on the Eyre Peninsula, reports the website for Austrailia's Daily Telegraph.
The GPS guide to the Fleurieu, includes a list of accommodations such as the Marina Hotel, which is actually in Port Lincoln on Eyre Peninsula.
David Ridgway, the opposition tourism spokesman, said the app was "sending visitors up the garden path." He went on to explain,"Once at the Marina, according to the app, you can stay at the Marina Hotel, enjoy Calypso Star shark cage diving, Adventure Bay Charters and swim with the tuna, because apparently the app thinks you're now at Port Lincoln, not on the Fleurieu Peninsula."
According to Gail Gago, the Tourism Minister, the government's tourism apps were all being updated at the time.
This is certainly not the only instance of a GPS mix-up. In fact, a website called GPS Obsessed reports that Google Maps once reported that Russia had invaded the state of Georgia (on the east coast of the United States) rather than the country of Georgia (in Europe).
This is also not the first time that South Australia tourism has created an uproar. The industry also came under fire in April for paying celebrities to post content about Kangaroo Island on Twitter. Market Watch broke the story.
