Amber Alert: 5 Important Tips When Facing Emergencies Abroad

Avoid using the AMBER alert system, especially when you are out on your vacation abroad. Protect your child or any member of your family from sudden disappearance or abduction. Prevent bad incidents by taking note of these 5 tips.

Always brief your family members

Before going on a family trip abroad, hold a simple meeting. In this meeting, tell them the dos and don'ts in the country that you are visiting. Brief them of the trip's itinerary. Remind them to as much as possible inform you when there are places that they want to visit. Also, group each member into pairs. Each person in the pair will be responsible for the other half.

Always ask your family members to carry your contact details everywhere at anytime

Ask your family members to jot down the emergency contact numbers, especially when your family is going to a place where the people do not speak your language. This should be done wherever they are going at all times. Highlight to them the importance of this instruction.

Always teach the child techniques to avoid abduction

Instruct your child or a female member to shout at the top of her voice whenever someone is making her feel uncomfortable. She could shout, "Help, Stranger!" It would also help if an older member carries a pepper spray or taser with her.

Always know where your family members are going

Encourage everyone to inform you or an adult where he or she is going. This is true when there each member plans on doing his or her own set of activities. As a general rule though, avoid doing activities alone.

Always know where the nearest embassy is

When it is time to ask for help, make sure that you know where the nearest embassy of your country is. This knowledge would greatly help you when you lose your important documents, or when somebody is missing or in a life-threatening situation.
