Ever wished you could lose weight just by lying around, watching TV, doing nothing? Well now you could! You now have the perfect excuse to watch your favorite comedy show, because while watching and laughing at the same time, you're actually burning calories.
According to scientists in an article in Daily Mail UK, collapsing into giggles could burn as many calories as brisk walking. Just 15 minutes of laughter a day will burn 10 to 40 calories, depending on a person's weight and the intensity of the laughter.
A comedian, who has a PhD in biology, reviewed the research on the dietary effects of laughter. Dr. Helen Pilcher's results showed that ROFL-ing was found to burn 120 calories an hour, similar to the amount burnt by walking at a moderate pace.
It is even better than doing stomach crunches because the internal obliques, which are important in creating your six packs, are activated more by laughing than doing crunches.
Not only does it help you lose weight but it also helps you increase your energy. Laughing causes the heart to beat faster, sending larger amounts of blood around the body and thus producing more energy.
It also helps you exercise your facial muscles, so yep, less wrinkles. Increases energy, less wrinkles, oh! It also helps bolster the immune system, aiding the body to fight infections, like coughs and colds.
An hour of strong laughter can actually burn 100 calories, equivalent to a small bag of chips or a small bar of chocolate. The same amount of calories could be worked off through half an hour of weightlifting or by vacuuming for almost three quarters of an hour.
It's not really advised to watch comedy shows 24/7 especially if you're snacking on something but it's a good start if you want a good strong laugh.
Hahaha! I can almost feel the calories burning away. Kidding!
