With more than 3,000 organizations flaunting their most recent innovations at the showcase Jan. 6 to Jan. 9, there seems to be something for everybody. Here are a couple of the top trends and items to be on the lookout for at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2016.
Virtual reality
While it made headlines in 2015, virtual reality is expected to blast in the New Year, as indicated by tech specialists. What started off sounding like a gimmick out of The Jetsons now hopes to position itself as an available and standard choice for entertainment and business use. Major organizations in the virtual reality circle like Oculus, Sony and HTC will be hand at CES with displays of the Oculus Rift, PlayStation VR system and HTV Vive, separately.
Catching up on the sector's showing a year ago, connected cars will keep on having a large presence at CES. Hope to see even more syncing between cars and purchasers' mobile technologies this year.
CNET editor at large Tim Stevens, who will be directing a panel on connected car innovations at CES, said that one only needs to look at Apple's Car Play and Google's Android Auto applications to see how the mobile business is attempting to cash in on this growing connected car trend. Both of these projects permit a smartphone to assume control over a car's in-cabin infotainment experience taking responsibility of music streaming, voice recognition messaging and navigation.
CES 2016 is also expected to see the presentation of the Chevrolet Bolt, an all-electric compact car that guarantees to go 200 miles on a charge. At $30,000, it might help bringing electric vehicles more accessibly into the mainstream.
Fashionable wearable
Taking after all the hype surrounding the presentation of the Apple Watch a year ago, expect that wearable will be a big talking point at CES 2016.
Each year, FashionWare is the gear-oriented fashion show held at CES, and CNET reports that shoppers can hope to see tech developers and designers attempt the difficult balancing act of making garments that is stylish yet useful, looking cool without trading off the innovation.
Robots and drones
Adding to the future-is-here vibe of CES is the continued strong showing of robotics. On its site, CES has 27 robotics exhibitors recorded so far. The organizations represented to demonstrate an extensive variety of unexpected applications for robotics advances.
