A recent patent application for a mobile app filed at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office shows indications that Uber might be joining the travel-booking industry anytime soon.
An online application stating that a 'mobile app that would link real-time airplane landings with the availability of Uber cars' might be an indication that Uber is indeed trying its luck in the booking business. A post on Dec. 24 provides us with more information about this interesting topic. It stated that the all-in-on-app 'cover the user's travel and transport needs for the entirety of the trip,' with the click of a single button. This includes lodging, luggage, and local attractions, among others.
As of present time, Uber declined to comment on the application.
CNBC reports that according to the patent, 'the Uber Travel system would include information similar to Uber's existing app, like an airport location where the user can be picked up. This app, though, would add recommended flights, and a way to book lodging and an airport-specific estimated agenda for collecting luggage and passing through customs.'
The proposed app is said to also provide comparisons between hotels, lodging houses, and other accommodations available in the area. Another description says that it can 'determine the types of lodging and transportation needed between two destinations without the user having to individually input each leg of the journey.' To add to that, the patent application also talks about a contingency plan in cases where the user is unable to use their mobile phone upon landing.
Uber has been into a lot of challenges for the past year. However, if the patent application is indeed Uber Travel, then it could change the whole game not only for this specific company but also for the travel-booking business as a whole.
Let us see what happens next.
