If you are a woman who loves to be girly and would love to travel to a country where you won't be looked down upon for being so, then Japan is the place for you.
In most countries, there is a higher chance for women who tend to be feminine to attract the wrong attention. Women who like kittens, bows and whose career is to become someone's dedicated wife and look after the kids are considered mediocre or are taken less seriously. Today has been an age where women are not only expected to be man's equal but unnecessarily superior.
On the other hand, being feminine is celebrated in Japan and they call it 'joshiryoku' which literally means 'girl power.' Their idea of girl power is about embracing being feminine, not being daring or tough as what others would normally think. So to put it more accurately, 'joshiryoku' stands for 'girl girl power.'
When it comes to fashion, women in Japan enjoy more freedom. For instance, there is less tendency for women to be catcalled while wearing lipstick and high heels. Women can wear what one would only don at parties and there are a lot of them who dress as such. This means dressing in a girly way appears common not only for women but for men as well. Since it is not a rare sight and you'll less likely stand out, there is less chance of harassment.
Cute stuff are also popular and highly celebrated in Japan. After all, this is the country that brought the world the icon of supreme cuteness - Hello Kitty. In this country, you can find adult women carrying bags, phone straps, and other items that features Hello Kitty, Pokemon and other adorable figures. Even men are found to sport such charming characters and they may even go as far as to wear pink.
With all these mentioned, this proves that being feminine in Japan is less prone to social pressure. In fact, embracing femininity may even propel you to success more than it becomes a hindrance.
