What Airlines Keep From You

Whether we like it or not boarding on a plane is one of the things that we have to go through to be able to travel. Won't it be better to know a bit more about this mode of transportation? Here are the secrets airlines keep from you (or when you're too lazy to read the fine print)

Cheapest Days to Fly

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday are the cheapest day to fly BUT not to buy. Airlines carry fewer passengers on these days so there are more cheap seats. The good news is that you can buy tickets for these days any time of the week.

Lavatory Lock

In movies, we always see the airline crew knock on doors asking if passengers are okay inside the lavatory but a Reddit user reported that airline lavatories can be unlocked from the outside. "There is usually a lock mechanism concealed behind the no smoking badge on the door. Just lift the flap up and slide the bolt to unlock."

Sleep Schedule

"Between 43 and 54 percent of pilots surveyed in the U.K., Norway, and Sweden admitted to having fallen asleep while flying a passenger plane."

Don't worry though as pilots are allowed to sleep especially on longer flights. The co-pilot will have to take control.

Breathe In

"Cabin air is not as dirty as people think. A portion of the air is recirculated because that helps to reduce humidity. But it's run through hospital-quality HEPA filters, and it's actually cleaner than the air found in most public buildings." Patrick Smith, commercial pilot and author, askthepilot.com

Turbulence

What's the truth about turbulence? Can it really crash a plane?

"Pilots find it perplexing that so many people are afraid of turbulence. It's all but impossible for turbulence to cause a crash. We avoid turbulence not because we're afraid the wing is going to fall off but because it's annoying." Patrick Smith
