Road Trip Etiquette Tips

After thanksgiving, we're looking forward to another long holiday in a couple of days. It is definitely a season to be jolly (fa la la la la) and the never ending road trips with family and friends commence. Here are tips on how to make road trips bearable (and even fun).

THE Music

Music selection can make or break the whole trip. Don't we all just have that one jam where everyone can relate to? We want that kind during road trips not the one where everyone is using their own earphones. Now we usually let the driver choose the beat but it would also be polite to consider the feelings of the passengers. At the end of the day, it's not just the driver who will be listening to the music.

Eating in the Car

This really depends. If you're carpooling it is rude but if you're going on really long trips, bringing your own food and eating in the car can save time as you don't need to stop along the way to eat. Just make sure that (1) food can be contained and doesn't easily spill, (2) no messy food, and (3) no smelly food.

Contribute

If you're not the one driving, offer something else to make their lives easier. Maybe you can take care of the gas, offer to bring some food, or even pledge to stay (not sleep) with the driver all throughout the trip so that he wouldn't be bored.

Don't rely on the GPS

Even if it's already 2015, the following things are still bound to happen: one, you can lose cellular phone reception; two, you're phone may not have enough battery to sustain you all throughout the trip. It still pays to print maps, study the landmarks, and really know where you are headed without relying on GPS or the internet.
