Jollibee, dubbed as Asia's answer to Mcdonald's is set to open in Australia - their third continent, announced Dennis Flores, Vice-President for International Markets during the 17th Asia Pacific Retailers Convention and Exhibition last week.
Jollibee plans to open stores in Australia sometime in 2017 with a menu that has been described as 'Americanised Filipino food'.
What makes Jollibee different from regular fast food chains is its menu. It includes breakfast steaks with hotdogs, tuna pies, bacon and egg pancake sandwiches, and a burger called cheesy bacon mushroom yum. For dessert, you can try Anthony Bourdain's favorite, halo-halo, combines red beans, white beans, chickpeas, coconut, green jelly, and ice.
Other bizarre menu items are the fried chicken, fried rice, and eggs for breakfast; they have burger patties with mushroom gravy with fries, egg and rice.
'Currently, we are present in two (continents), and in the next two years we will see Jollibee in four continents,' Flores said.
'We are doing our best to open our first stores in the UK and Italy next year, and soon in Australia and Japan. We will continue our journey with Jollibee as a truly global brand.'
As a home-grown Filipino brand, the strategy is to pick a location where there are a lot of Filipinos.
'Knowing that Jollibee is well-loved by Filipinos, reaching out to them wherever they are is logical for us. We took a conscious decision to prioritise going into markets with significant Filipino populations,' Flores added
According to Bloomberg data, Jollibee is the largest in Asia and the 10th largest in the world in terms of market capitalisation.
Currently, the fast food chain has over 1000 outlets, 130 of which are outside the Philippines. It has stores in Vietnam, Singapore, Hong Kong and Brunei. There are also locations across the Middle East and the U.S.
