Leading online travel company Orbitz.com has released a new travel app that will make it easier for travelers to book flights, hotels and rental cars.
Apps have become extremely popular with the increase of iPhones, iPads, Android devices, tablets, and other app-based technology. Luckily for travelers, there are several apps out there that aim to make a travel experience easier. Orbitz.com's new app does the same, in advanced ways.
People can spend hours, days, or even weeks trying to plan out a trip, but this new app makes the process happen in minutes. The new Orbitz.com app makes it super fast and easy to book a trip right from a phone. Users found that the new upgraded app is twice as fast as all other competitors apps for the iPhone. Those who tested the app found that they were able to book an entire trip, including flights, hotel rooms, and car rental, in just over seven minutes.
Competitor apps like Kayak's and Expedia's are much more complicated and time consuming. Kayak's app sends users to different browser screen within the app. Expedia makes people repeatedly re-enter information.
"Mobile commerce is skyrocketing," said Chris Brown, vice president of product strategy at Orbitz, in a press release. "People use mobile phones on the train and during such times when they can accomplish more than on a desktop." In May 2012, nearly six million Orbitz consumers used mobile devices to shop on Orbitz, more than double the number the previous year, he said.
New features on the app include 1-tap access to find hotels near your location, the ability to choose and drag travel dates to a calendar, access to recent searches, seeing hotels on a map in full-screen and landscape views, swiping through hotel photos, the ability to email your travel itinerary, more hotel reviews to help user make decisions, and less screens to make booking flights and hotels easier.
The app also provides users with special hotel deals. App users can take advantage of Orbitz Mobile Steals, special; app-only discounts that offer up to 65% off same night and future hotel stays.
Users have the option to store information like name, credit card number, address, seating preferences, frequent flyer program memberships, and more. Once everything is booked, users can also check their flight status to make sure everything is good to go.
The app, available for free in the iTunes store, already has high ratings from users and it was just released Thursday.
