43 Fossilized Dinosaur Eggs, China Road Workers Unearthed [PHOTOS + REPORT]

Fossilized Dinosaur Eggs China - 43 fossilised dinosaur eggs have been discovered by road workers laying a sewage pipe in the city centre of Heyuan in Guangdong province in south-east China.

According to Du Yanli, the director of the city's Dinosaur Museum, the fossilized dinosaur eggs from China ranged from 10 to 12 centimetres in diameter. The largest one measured more than 7 inches.

Yanli added that the fossilized dinosaur eggs, China, have been well preserved due to red sandstone beds in the area.

Nineteen of the 43 fossilized dinosaur eggs were fully intact, according to the South China Morning Post.

One worker reportedly tried to grab two of the rare fossils. However, he was stopped by authorities and wasn't able to flee with any of the eggs.

After the worker almost escaped with the fossilized dinosaur eggs, China, passers-by formed a human chain, protecting the site until police arrived to take the eggs for examination, according to the Daily Mail.

The People's Daily Online reports that the giant fossils were the first to be found in the city. They are now being studied by experts from the Heyuan Dinosaur Museum in order to determine what species of dinosaur they belonged to.

A 1.3 square kilometre dinosaur fossil and geological protected zone was set up in the area for additional scientific research and work had been halted in the meantime.

"There are fossilised dinosaur eggs everywhere in the red sandstone layer but they were never found because the city was built on top of the layers," said Yanli on the fossilized dinosaur eggs, China. "With the recent road and sewage system upgrade, the red sandstone layer is being exposed and has led to the discovery of the fossils."

Heyuan, the area where the fossilized dinosaur eggs, China had been found, has reportedly earned the nickname "Hometown of the Dinosaur in China" because more than 17,000 fragments of fossilized dinosaur eggs have been discovered since 1996

The Heyuan Museum has already received a Guinness World Record in 2004 for having the largest collection of dinosaur eggs in the world - 10,008, reported the Huffington Post.

The discovery of the fossilized dinosaur eggs, China this month is reportedly the first in the city center. According to Yanli, it may be possible that several other dinosaur remains can be found in sandstone beds around the city. He added that construction projects should be halted if these fossils are unearthed.
