Disney's Pixar has had a lot of success with their movies. "Toy Story," "Cars," "Up," and "Finding Nemo" remain movies that people can watch over and over again and not grow tired of. Disney's newest movie, "Brave," is expected to have as much success as previous Pixar hits. Disney is placing high bets on the film and has created tours of Scotland, where the animated movie is based.
Disney sees the potential for main character, Merida, to become as popular as Belle of "Beauty and the Beast," Pocahontas, or Mulan. Get on your kilt and chow down on some haggis becvause the travel company Adventures by Disney has come up with a real life tour of Scotland that follows the path of Merida in "Brave."
The nine-day Scotland: A Brave Adventure is a fun-filled adventure for families planning to visit Scotland. Guests get to explore the sights and lands of Edinburgh, the Isle of Skye, the Isle of Lewis and Inverness, which all inspired Pixar producers to create the animated film.
Guests can enjoy adventurous activities like archery lessons at Glamis Castle, canoeing on Loch Ness, horseback riding through the Caledonian Forest, hiking at Brothers Point, and much more. All of the activites are based on things that the heroic character Merida does in the movie.
Not only will tourists have adventure, but they'll also get a cultural and educational experience while touring Scotland's many castles and museums. Guides will also tell stories of the history, traditions, and legends of the lands.
Those who see the movie will also recognize some of the real life versions of certain sets and places in Scotland. There will be visits to Dunnottar Castle, which inspired Merida's castle,Black House of Arnol and the Gearrannan Blackhouse Village, which inspired the witch houses in the movie, and the Chessmen of Lewis chess pieces at the National Museum of Scotland, which Merida and her mother play with in the movie.
The tours will begin in the spring of 2013 and carry on through the summer. The package is a bit pricey as it can cost up to $5,959 for an adult and $5,659 for a child, not including airfare. However, it includes accommodations; meals, activities and entertainment; land transportation; and guides.
Adventure of Disney offers tours in countries in every continent but Antarctica on tours that range from five days to 13 days long.
