Lexington Fans Arrested - Following the loss of Wildcats to the Badgers, a number of Wildcat fans were left bewildered over the loss. However, some fans were quite enraged that they took their rage literally with a number of fires spread in the University of Kentucky's Lexington Campus.
Around 31 Lexington fans arrested following the incident. A group of Wildcat fans started to set fire to multiple objects in the area. Some of the Lexington fans arrested were intoxicated. Officials at the scene described the crowd being "rowdy, and at times hostile." Injuries were noted as well, with some having been sent to the local hospital to get treatment. None of the injuries reported however was life-threatening.
"I'm just really sad because I was expecting an undefeated season," says one student from Eastern Kentucky with regards to the Lexington fans arrested in a report by Courier-Journal, adding, "I think the police will handle it pretty well. They usually do."
What had led to the Lexington fans getting arrested? This came after the Wisconsin Badgers managed to defeat the Kentucky Wildcats with a score of 71-62 during a thrilling Saturday night match. The Wisconsin Badgers now advance to the NCAA national championship game where they face Duke.
With regards to the Lexington fans arrested from the rowdy crowd, officials manage to subdue the mob of angry fans around 2 in the morning. By then, the mood had transitioned from mad to a quiet acceptance of the loss.
"This was a citywide effort to clear this situation ... it really requires the whole city to come together in situations like these," shares the Lexington Police Department spokeswoman, Sherelle Roberts about the Lexington fans arrested in a report by NBC News.
While the Lexington fans arrested are still depressed and enraged over their team's loss, the Badgers continue to celebrate over their surprising victory.
