Summer is a big time for travel as the weather is warm and people, especially kids, have more free time. However, travel can get expensive. With airfares being skyhigh and fees continuously increasing, travel can cost an arm and a leg. However, certain times during the summer are cheaper than others when it comes to travel.
Travelocity, one of the largest travel companies in the world, has identified the five cheapest weekends to travel during the summer. They analyzed two years of personal travel data to determine which summer weekends cost the least for traveling.
Travelocity looked at information for June, July, and August but found that mid-July and late August are the best times for cheap airfare during the summer. Of course, the most expensive travel periods fall around the Fourth of July and Labor Day Holdiays.
The Travelocity data shows mid-July and late August are the times travelers will find the lowest airfare this summer. In comparison, more expensive dates include the Fourth of July and Labor Day holidays.
"Most travelers go for the usual summer holidays such as the Fourth of July and Labor Day to fit in a summer vacation," said Courtney Scott, senior editor for Travelocity in a press release. "Instead, travelers should book on prime weekends such as our cheapest weekends to travel in order to get the best bang for their buck, and receive additional perks such as beating the crowd."
According to Travelocity, the top five summer weekends with the cheapest average airfares will be:
June 22-24: $628
July 14-16: $628
July 20-22: $626
August 17-19: $618
August 24-26: $598
Late August is predicted to have the lowest airfare prices as this is when kids, especially college students, start returning to school. However, Travelocity found that prices will be extra high around Labor Day as families try to fit in one last vacation before the school year begins. Travelers may want to escape the weekend before when the average airfares will be a lower $598.
Travelers wanting to vacation over Labor Day should consider the weekend before the holiday, August 24-26, where airfare will be an average airfare of $598.
