One of the fun parts about vacation is being able to let loose and maybe even party. However, some people still have a reputation to uphold and might want to hold back on getting too wild. One good example: the Secret Service.
In addition to getting caught in the middle of a prostitution scandal in Colombia, Secret Service agents detailed to protect President Barack Obama and his family during a vacation to Martha's Vineyard let their partying get out of hand.
According to a Fox News report, residents of the area said that the Secret Service agents would get involved in bar fights and host wild parties in their rental houses.
One resident told Fox "I expect parties during the summer. People come here to have fun -- they're on vacation. But I didn't think it'd be Secret Service people here protecting the president."
Martha's Vineyard is a popular summer island vacation spot, south of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Around 75,000 people stay there over the summer months in addition to the 15,000 year round residents. The Obama's have visited the island on several occasions as it is an annual summer vacation retreat for the first family.
Whenever the President goes on vacation, the Secret Service comes along, but residents of Martha's Vineyard are not happy with their behavior. The partying and trashing of rental homes last August became so bad that local police had to step in, Fox New reports.
In one incident, police were called to one of the Secret Service rental homes at four in the morning due to loud yelling, young going in and out of the house, and cars and beer bottles decorated the front lawn, a neighbor told Fox News.
A spokesman for the Secret Service told Fox that they never received any complaints about the rowdy behavior in Martha's Vineyard in 2011. However, residents claimed differently.
agency had not received any complaints about agents' behavior on Martha's Vineyard in the summer of 2011. But a local resident told FoxNews.com she and her husband had complained.
A local couple claims to have called the agency to complain about the issue, but it was brushed off and they were told "that's what they do on vacation." However the agents involved in the wild behavior were in the area to protect Obama. The Secret Service refuses to acknowledge the resident's concerns.
Residents are still angry over the way the agents treated their neighborhood and their rental properties. Many will not be renting out their homes again.
