Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Veteran's Day shouldn't be the only day in which those who serve our country are remembered and respected. Steve Speach, Destination Sales Executive at a hotel near Las Vegas airport realized that and he helped military personnel in a big way.
Several military servicemen and women have Speach to thank for providing them with places to stay. They came to Speach's Las Vegas extended-stay hotel, only to find that there were no rooms available. Speach could have turned them down, but instead he came up with ways to serve those who served our country.
Speach and his team realized that rooms were filled due to pre-arranged events, so they figured out a way to free up space. Several suites were undergoing maintenance and unavailable, so Speach and his team got together to throw down extra money and speed up the repairs so that the Army members could have a place to stay.
The military personnel were able to stay in the SpringHill Suites Las Vegas Convention Center conveniently near McCarran International Airport. SpringHill Suites has some of the largest hotel suites in Las Vegas. The suites also come with things that make it feel more like home like free-high-speed-internet, 37-inch HDTV's, a desk, a microwave, and a mini refrigerator.
For his selfless act of making room in the suites, Speach was given the Commander's Award for Public Service. Speech was presented with the award on April 13, 2012 by Stephen J. Sanderson, Deputy Director, Public Affairs, U.S. Army. Speech's generosity, selfless service and corporate financial sacrifice was recognized on behalf of the United States Army, who were hosting overseas members for training at a nearby facility.
Others in the travel industry have also been selfless in acts towards military servicemen and women. Johnny of JohnnyJet.com recently wrote a blog describing how he gave up his first class seat to an Army man on board an American Airlines flight. He also mentioned how American Airlines offers free meals to military personnel on their planes.
