Baby Utah River - An 18 month old baby girl was rescued from an upturned vehicle at the Utah River 14 hours after the deadly crash. While the mother was found dead, rescuers found it miraculous that the baby survived the icy temperatures. However, the most surprising incident from the rescue was the fact that rescuers had heard cries for help.
Four rescuers who had headed to save baby Utah River heard a distinct cry for help from an upturned vehicle found at the Spanish Fork River. What they found inside the vehicle caught them by surprise. The mother, identified as Lynn "Jenny" Groesbeck aged 25, was already dead whereas, the 18 month old infant was found alive. She was hanging upside down for 14 hours.
"We're not exactly sure where that voice came from," says Spanish Fork Officer, Jared Warner told the Deseret News. Officer Tyler Beddoes added, "It wasn't just something that was just in our heads. To me it was plain as day cause I remember hearing a voice. I think it was Dewitt who said, 'We're trying. We're trying our best to get in there.' How do you explain that? I don't know."
To whom did the voice belong to if not to the baby Utah River? Rescuers are still baffled over it. As for the baby rescued from the wreckage, she had been sent to the Salt Lake City Hospital. Doctors state she is in a stable but critical condition.
Jill Sanderson, the sister of Lynn, the victim in the car crash, adds that baby, Lily Groesbeck, is "doing remarkably well." Family members of Lynn state that she was supposedly headed home to Springville, 9 miles away from Salem in Utah, when the accident occurred.
While baby Lily is currently under treatment, three of the police officers and four other fire fighters who had rescued baby Utah River have also been treated at the hospital for the case of hypothermia. They have since been released from the hospital.
