Facebook Suicide Posts - Suicide has long been one of the biggest reasons for mortality especially amongst teenagers. Given some teenagers have doled out their emotions on social media before taking the plunge, Facebook's latest application hopes to prevent such act and warn those in contact with the individual. Despite the prevention tool, some netizens are having mixed reactions about it.
The new feature that filters out Facebook suicide posts and reaches out to the person posting it is set to roll out in a few months. The said suicide prevention tool has been proposed by Facebook product manager, Rob Boyle.
"Keeping you safe is our most important responsibility," shares Boyle in a report by News Week, adding, "If someone on Facebook sees a direct threat of suicide, we ask that they contact their local emergency services immediately. We also ask them to report any troubling content to us. We have teams working around the world, 24/7, who review any report that comes in."
The latest tool for filtering out and reaching out to those who Facebook suicide posts is the latest "safety feature." This of course comes at rather a late time given the number of social media suicide posts before their reported deaths. Back in 2013, a 16-year old boy had killed himself right after posting two Facebook suicide posts - one being a message about taking his life away, and another being a photo of himself holding a gun to his cheek.
So what would the prevention tool that would filter out Facebook suicide posts look like? The posts are expected to look like the following. Netizens on the other hand are having mixed reactions about the latest application on Facebook. Some claim it is a "little weird and a little overbearing." On the other hand, some claim it is one way of helping other people.
