Lupita Nyong'o gown found recently was returned to The London West Hollywood Friday afternoon where it was taken 2 days earlier. The missing pearl-covered $150,000 Oscar gown was, according to TMZ, "a worthless fake", after the thief called to tell them where it could be found and added such.
A male reportedly called TMZ around 2:30 PM Friday, telling them he took the dress from Lupita's hotel room after finding the door ajar. He added that he and others took 2 pearls off of the dress, after which they went to the garment district in downtown L.A. The man said they were told that the pearls in Lupita Nyong'o gown found weren't real.
According to the thief, he decided to take back Lupita Nyong'o's gown found recently. He returned the dress at the hotel, stuffing it in a garment bag inside a trash bag which he deposited in a 2nd floor bathroom adjacent to a fitness center.
TMZ contacted the L.A. County Sheriff's Dept. after the call from the thief, and the authorities went over to the hotel and retrieved the bag. The caller appeared to have told the truth about Lupita Nyong'o gown found since police said they found a garment bag with the dress inside.
Police confirmed that the$150,000 white Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein frock was made almost entirely of pearls. They had the Lupita Nyong'o gown found under a sink in a bathroom at the London West Hollywood hotel, the same hotel the actress had been staying in when it was stolen Wednesday.
"Hotel staff searched and found the dress in a bag hidden behind a counter in the bathroom," said LAPD's Michael White.
The thief reportedly said Lupita Nyong'o gown found is almost worthless and that he wanted the world to know "Hollywood's fake bulls**t."
The dress is decorated with 6,000 pearls and it had been a showstopper on the red carpet before Sunday's Academy Awards ceremony, according to NBC Los Angeles.
As of the current moment, there are no suspects. However, cops are now reviewing CCTV footage to find out clues, reported The Mirror.
There are a few of the 6,000 pearls reportedly falling off the Lupita Nyong'o gown found. Fortunately, there is no damage to the dress which the 31-year-old actress wore.
As for the actress, she is said to be relieved after finding out that the Calvin Klein pearl gown was found with little damage.
After finding out that the gown had been stolen had been stolen from her five star hotel room while she was out Wednesday, the "12 Years A Slave" actress was left devastated.
"This is a terribly unfortunate situation, and we are working with law enforcement on their investigation," said a spokesperson for the London said at the time.
LA police are reportedly keeping the Lupita Nyong'o gown found in their possession until Lupita or one of her team collects it.
Nyong'o won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar last year for her role as an abused slave in that year's best-picture winner "12 Years A Slave." The actress also appeared in the Liam Neeson thriller "Non-Stop." She is also set to appear in the highly anticipated "Stars Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens."
