Metrolink Crash Today - What should have been just another day at the Metrolink train station, turned out to be the worst day for passengers. Due to a truck that took a wrong turn and stopped directly on the railroad track, a commuter train had inevitably crashed into it. More than 30 people have been left injured due to the incident.
The driver responsible for the truck leading to the Metrolink crash today has been identified as Jose Alejandro Sanchez Ramirez. The 54-year old truck driver, after taking a wrong turn and crashing into the railroad track, had left the incident. He now faces charges of felony hit-and-run according to Oxnard assistant police chief, Jason Benites.
Apart from 30 people left injured due to the Metrolink crash today, three people are said to be in critical injuries. Robert Sumwalt of the National Transportation Safety Board claims that the truck was not stuck in the railroad tracks as reported earlier by the media.
The train involved in the Metrolink crash today is the Ventura County Line Train 102. More than 40 people including the crew were aboard. The train was supposedly headed toward Camarillo and the Los Angeles Union Station. The crash had been recorded around 6 in the morning.
The Metrolink crash today involved three rail cars derailed before toppling over. Whereas the truck had burst into flames after the collision. Approximately 28 people have been sent to the hospital where injuries had ranged from trauma to the head, back, and neck.
The National Transportation Safety Board are set to investigate the Metrolink crash today. As for the Federal Railroad Administration, they too have sent out investigators who would "conduct a thorough investigation to determine the factors that contributed to this accident.'' The truck driver involved is also under investigation. This incident has also raised questions regarding the safety features of trains and the lack of seat belts.
