Sure, there's the new Apple Maps app, but Peter Pauper Press has teamed up with Apple to create the ultimate guide to New York City. Inspired by Peter Pauper Press's popular Little Black Book series, the new app -- just released yesterday -- is called the New York Travel Guide. The company promises that it's everything traveler's love about the book series, with the added convenience of technology for smartphone users. From a basic introduction to the city for newcomers to the hidden gems in neighborhoods that even veteran New Yorkers might not be aware of, there's something for everyone. While it will be free for the first few days after it's release, it will retail for $1.99 from the iTunes store.
The app has maps that are stored offline, so that visitors to the area could access them even when they're not connected to the internet, like if they're in a subway. Moreover, there's a My Trip feature which will create an organized travel wishlist. You can adjust the list when you find new sites you want to check out by hitting the Add to My Trip button, found on every venue listing page. As with every guide, there is a list of Top Picks and a list of Seasonal Events to help tourists get the most out of the experience, but unique to this app is an in-app camera and photo sharing functions. Also, there are easy-access social media buttons on every page, so that users can document their trip on Twitter or Facebook.
The company plans to have eight more guides available by the end of 2012, and a guide for Florence and Tuscany is expected in January of 2013. In addition to New York City, the guides will hit such destinations as Maui and Kaua’i, Paris, London, and Rome. Cities such as Boston, San Francisco, and Chicago will have guides tailored to them, as well.
Peter Pauper Press, Inc. was founded in 1928. The company specializes in publishing travel guides, cookbooks, humor books, and quotation collections. They also publish organizers, designer journals, and stationery. Each year, Peter Pauper Press publishes an estimated 130 books and products.
