Avengers: Age of Ultron Facing Threat of Pacquiao vs. Mayweather Fight on Opening Week

The boxing showdown between undefeated American fighter Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Filipino slugger Manny Pacquiao will be so massive that it's expected to generate at least $250 million. Yet, despite the collective star power of the top two boxers in this generation, it won't be enough to thwart the Earth's mightiest heroes as they look to conquer the silver screen anew starting on the first weekend of May.

In a report by TMZ, Marvel Studios representatives cleared that the date for the worldwide premier of Avengers 2: Age of Ultron remains on May 1, and there's no plan to make a postponement despite the fact the movie's opening weekend coincides with another mammoth of an event - the much awaited clash between Mayweather and Pacquiao.

Via TMZ:

We spoke to reps for Marvel who tell us despite the fact that "Avengers: Age Of Ultron" is slated to open on May 1st -- the same weekend as Mayweather vs. Pacquiao -- there are ZERO plans to push the release.

It's an interesting dilemma for Marvel ... do you really want your big blockbuster going up against a global event that's expected to rake in more than $300 million?? Especially on its 1st Saturday?

Despite the competition, the company says it's riding with "Captain America" and "Iron Man" because when we asked if there were any plans to jiggle the schedule the response was simply, "Nope."

Dubbed as the Fight of the Century, the boxing match between Mayweather and Pacquiao is predicted to easily smash all sorts of records exiting, whether that be on Pay-per-View sales or the crowd at MGM Grand Garden. Dan Rafael of ESPN Boxing even called it the biggest fight since the original Fight of the Century - the first confrontation between Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali in 1971.

However, with all the magnitude of the welterweight fight, it's fair to say that it stands no chance against the sequel of the most successful superhero movie of all time. The modern reincarnation of the Avengers became the third highest-grossing film of all time in 2012, and there's little doubt Age of Ultron won't surpass the accomplishment of its predecessor.
