The showdown between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao is almost a done deal with both parties reportedly signing the contract for their $250 million fight scheduled on May 2 at MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, Nevada.
According to Ring Observer boxing insider Mark Malinowski, the super-fight between the two best boxers in this era has already been agreed upon and it only needs an announcement from Mayweather, the bout's 'A-side boxer,' to make it official.
"Just received an Instant Message from an insider: The 'Pacquiao vs. Mayweather Superfight' was signed today by both combatants," Malinowski wrote via Philippine Inquirer. "I believe it, I believe the source, and I believe we have a fight. Still, knowing Floyd's reluctance and ducking ability and agility, one must reserve slight doubt. very slight."
Notoriously known for rejecting the possibility of a Pacquiao-Mayweather slugfest after a series of botched negotiations, Dan Rafael of ESPN Boxing is already having a change of heart as he has already raised his self-made threat meter to level orange.
"A busy morning has caused me to hereby raise the #MayweatherPacquiao threat level to red. There is severe risk this fight will be finalized," the Award-winning boxer writer twitted on Thursday.
Second Showdown Set in November
Aside from their soon-to-be finalized fight on May 2, Pacquiao and Mayweather are expected to meet again in November for a rematch, according to Malinowski.
"In the same report, Malinowski's source said a rematch between the two superstars is scheduled in November this year," the Ring Observer reported said via Philippine Inquirer.
Pacquiao, who is currently holding the WBO Welterweight Championship, might be on his way to pocketing the largest paycheck of his career despite conceding the Lion's share of the 60-40 fight purse split to Mayweather.
Mayweather will also set the bar higher in terms of collecting the highest guaranteed money in history, if the fight pushes through. Already the richest athlete in the world by Forbes Magazine, the Grand Rapids native could earn a whopping $100M in fight money, not excluding his share on pay-per-view and merchandize sales.
