NBA Rumors: Lakers Would Explore Trading Jeremy Lin By Deadline

Trading Jeremy Lin has never been out of question for the Los Angeles Lakers, the problem is no team appears to be interested enough to acquire the struggling point guard. This is the revelation Sean Deveney of Sporting News stated in his recent article detailing the top players likely to be moved before the February 19 trade deadline.

Averaging 10.4 points and 4.7 dimes per game, the 26-year old Lin is in the midst of his worst statistical year of his career since his breakout year in New York City three years ago. It's no secret Lin and Byron Scott hasn't been on the same page all year, but his shooting woes, particularly from midrange territory, also contributed to his plummeting stock.

According to Deveney, the Lakers would try to gauge trade interest for Lin over the next three weeks heading into the trade deadline, though the market has been relatively weak for the Asian-American star.

"Lin has had a rough season, and it's happened at a bad time-just ahead of free agency this summer. While some of that has been the result of a bad fit in LA, it's also been Lin's own struggles with his shooting, particularly from mid-range."

"He still would make a good backup point guard, and the Lakers would move him if they could get an asset in return, but the market for Lin has been weak."

The Miami Heat and Detroit Pistons have been mentioned as potential suitors for Lin, yet the Lakers haven't received any offer since he becomes available for trade on December 15. Lin is earning $15MM ($8MM against the salary cap) in the final year of his three-year, $25MM contract he signed with the Houston Rockets in 2012. Should the Lakers pursue a trade to unload Lin, his destination would likely be a team looking to create cap space when his contract expires at the end of the season.
