Lottery Winner Arthur Neal Found Dead - Arthur Neal, the 86-year-old man from Detroit, whose family said he had won $20,000 in a lottery game, was found stabbed to death in a vacant home Sunday, reported USA Today.
According to Local 4, the body of lottery winner, Arthur Neal, found dead over the weekend was in a vacant house in the 15000 block of Mansfield Street.
Officer Adam Madera, a Detroit police spokesman, said Wednesday that Neal's body was found Sunday in the basement of the vacant home. Earlier news reports also indicated that the body of lottery winner, Arthur Neal, found dead, was seen under a tarp. However, police have reportedly declined to confirm this detail.
"We can confirm that the body that was found was Mr. Neal, and it is being investigated as a homicide," said Madera Wednesday. "We don't want to go into great deal of detail but the body was covered, but not with a tarp as previously reported."
According to a spokesman for the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office, Neal's body had suffered multiple stab wounds.
Before the body of lottery winner, Arthur Neal, was found dead Sunday, the old man had been reported missing since Dec. 20. His family said he was last seen at his home in the 17200 block of Trinity Street. This was also after he informed his family that he had won the lottery.
His friends and family were concerned after he suddenly vanished. They were worried that someone had harmed him, since they found it unlikely for him to leave on his own. According to his family members, Neal would also never miss Christmas with his family. They were also disturbed that many people in the neighborhood had known about his win in the lottery.
"It bothers me greatly because I don't think that's the type of information that should have seeped out - if that was the case - especially that neighborhood in which he was staying and reside," according to one family member as told to CBS-News.
Despite the body of lottery winner, Arthur Neal, found dead over the weekend, and his family confirming this fact, Madera said police have still not been able to confirm whether anybody with Neal's name won a lottery game or has cashed a ticket in his name. They added that there had been no records whatsoever of anyone winning $20,000 in the state's lottery in December.
Police are still working to find out if Neal's winning $20,000 check had ever been cashed, according to clickondetroit.com.
According to the old man's family members, Neal's home was in disarray and the door was left partially open when they checked on him. At the time, there had been no suspicion of foul play by the police.
After the body of lottery winner, Arthur Neal, found dead in his home, police also found the elderly man's 1998 black Cadillac Deville missing. Now, investigators are working hard to find his killer, according to The Inquisitr.
