Suge Knight's dead friend is a victim of an uncalled for hit-and-run following an argument with the former Death Row Records CEO.
According to Washington Post, the 49-year-old rap mogul has been arrested in relation to the hit-and-run murder incident in Los Angeles on Thursday.
Authorities said Knight - born Marion Hugh Knight Jr. - fatally struck two of his friends after arguing and exchanging punches.
Knight reportedly exited the crime scene as fast as he could, but his attorney, James Blatt, insisted that his client fled the scene for fear of a vicious assault from four men and that he had know idea he had actually ran over two men: a 51-year-old yet-to-be-identified man and his 55-year-old friend, Terry Carter.
Though there is still no sufficient evidence to support Knight's explanation, he has already been booked on suspicion of murder, Yahoo! News has learned.
An update to the developing news story revealed that Knight has acknowledged that he had ran over two people while driving a red pickup truck, but claimed that it was purely an accident.
"He was in the process of being physically assaulted by two men and in an effort to escape he unfortunately hit two [other] individuals," Blatt told reporters Friday. "He was in this car trying to escape. ... We are confident that once the investigation is completed, he will be totally exonerated."
While the other victim was only injured, Carter has already been pronounced dead by medical professionals at the hospital.
Per Blatt's statement, Knight and Carter were pretty "close friends" but the details to support this claim are still unknown. As for the other victim believed to be Cla "Bone" Sloan, he is a reformed gang member who has worked in a number of movie projects and TV series including "Training Day," "End of Watch" and "Southland," among others.
Lieutenant John Corina said in a press conference that prior the hit-and-run, Knight had an argument on the set of the biopic "Straight Outta Compton," which features teh rise and fall of pioneering rap group N.W.A. which included Ice Cube and Dr Dre.
Corina added that Knight had followed the two victims 20 minutes later while they were standing nearby. The rap mogul allegedly "drove backwards and struck the victims and drove forward and struck them again," Gossip Cop reports.
