With the summer just getting started, a trip to the beach is probably on your itinerary. The weather is getting warmer, lifeguards are on duty and people are ready to shed their winter skin and get a healthy glow while lying on the soft sand and listening to the calm waves. If you're planning on heading to the beach, you might be looking for some tunes to get pumped for the trip or just looking for something to listen to while already there.
In no particular order, here are some beachy tunes to add to your playlist before playing in the sand and the sun this summer.
"Summer Girls" by LFO- This one will take you back to the summer of '99, but it is still a catchy hit to listen to while living the life of a summer girl, or checking them out on the beach.
"Under The Boardwalk"- The Drifters: This one is a classic. Take time to get out of the sun and relax "Under the boardwalk" with your beloved one.
"Surfin' USA"- Beach Boys: Just about anything by the Beach Boys is perfect to add to a beach-themed playlist, but this one is for those who plans on catching waves on the water.
"Is This Love" - Bob Marley: No beach playlist would be complete without the island reggae sounds of Bob Marley.
"Island in the Sun"- Weezer: This upbeat tune will get you pumped to spend the day on your own version of an island in the sun.
"Margaritaville" - Jimmy Buffet: Like the Beach Boys, almost anything by Jimmy Buffet would be a beach hit. While you're enjoying your time on the beach, don't go without savoring a frozen margarita to cool down.
"Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polkadot Bikini"-Bryan Hyland: While at the beach, you're guaranteed to see plenty of bikinis around, whether or not you want to see a certain person wearing one.
"Wipeout"- The Sufaris: This is another one for the surfers. Just try to hang ten instead of wiping out.
"Soak up the Sun"- Sheryl Crow : Jam along to this hit as you soak up the sun, but ymake sure you "Got [your] 45 on" so you don't get burned, unlike Owl City.
"Sunburn"- Owl City: Owl City loves to sing about the ocean and sea towns, but with this song, he advises to avoid getting "sunburned" by the sun or love. Don't forget your sunscreen this summer.
"Rockaway Beach"- The Ramones: This hit talks about one beach in particular, the catchy-sounding "Rock, Rock, Rockaway Beach" in New York, but it can get you in the summer mood for whatever beach destination you plan on visiting.
"Shark in the Water"- VV Brown: The last thing you want to encounter while swimming is a shark, but it's better to have this song playing in your head than the Jaws theme song.
"Swim"- Jack's Mannequin: If you love the ocean, you probably won't hesitate to go for a swim. This song is a song that reflects Dory of "Finding Nemo's" motto "Just Keep Swimming."
"Warmth of the Sand"- Dashboard Confessional: Dashboard Confessional has a few beach-themed songs, but this one is probably their beachiest tune. Lie back on your towel, and feel the warmth of the sand beneath you.
"Bubble Toes"- Jack Johnson: Jack Johnson is from Hawaii, so he knows what it's like to be a beach bum, and his songs portray that lazy beach feel. This is just one of many of his songs that can be added to your playlist.
"The Tide Is High"- Blondie: This one might not be about the beach, but it has a beachy tune. Listen to this one as you try to grab the attention of a pretty girl or handsome guy in hopes of being their "number one."
"Knee Deep"- Zac Brown Band : Zac Brown knows how to bring the country to the beach with perfect lyrics like "Wishing I was knee deep in the water somewhere.Got the blue sky breeze and it don't seem fair. Only worry in the world is the tide gonna reach my chair"
"Toes" -Zac Brown Band: This is another perfect Zac Brown beach Song. The main chorus says "I got my toes in the water, ass in the sand. Not a worry in the world, a cold beer in my hand. Life is good today, life is good today" Can't get better than that.
"No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problem"-Kenny Chesney: This is another great country beach song. You'll find yourself agreeing with Chesney's verse "Want a towel on a chair in the sand by the sea. Want to look through my shades and see you there with me. Want to soak up life for a while In laid back mode. No boss, no polite, no stress, no dress code."
"Skinny Dipping"-Whitney Duncan: This is a true country sounding song, but if you're as adventurous as Whitney Duncan, you might find yourself taking a late night skinny dip in the ocean this summer.
