Speeding isn't encouraged, which is why there are rules, but when you're traveling long distances on a road trip; you might be overcome with excitement as you can't wait to get to your next destination. You put a little more pressure on the gas pedal to pick up the pace in hopes of getting to your destination sooner. Next thing you know, there's a cop behind you, lights and sirens blaring. Nothing can put a damper on a summer vacation or road trip like getting a speeding ticket.
The National Motorists Association (NMA) tries to help those who are concerned about tickets. They perform a study to determine which states are most and least likely to give out tickets.
As most states don't typically keep track of this information, the rankings are not very scientific. The NMA comes up with their rankings by analyzing ticket search queries such as "speeding ticket" and "traffic tickets" using Google's Insights for Search-a public tool that shows search trends across the United States. This study was also conducted in 2010.
After looking at the numbers, the NMA found that Nevada is the state where you're most likely to get a traffic ticket. Next is Georgia and Alabama. In the 2010 study, Florida was on top and Georgia and Nevada were tied for second.
The state where you're least likely to get ticketed is Wyoming, followed closely by Montana. These states were also ranked on the bottom in the 2010 study.
